St. Margaret’s School seeks a Chaplain to serve as its spiritual leader. Our Chaplain is a visible presence on campus, providing both spiritual and emotional guidance to the school community. The Chaplain serves on the Cabinet, and Health and Student Affairs teams. This is a full-time, 10-month benefited faculty position. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Promoting the spiritual life of the school and serving as a steward of our Episcopal school identity
  • Planning and coordinating the liturgical year of chapel worship, including the facilitation of student, faculty, and guest leadership in chapel services
  • Chairing the Arts and Religion Department, and teaching academic courses in religion
  • Providing pastoral care and counseling to the members of the school community
  • Serving as a liaison with parents, the Board of Governors, Diocese of Virginia, and other external agencies for the provision of pastoral care and development of programs
  • Providing crisis management support both collaboratively and individually
  • Serving as a duty team member and becoming involved in the education of girls as directed by the Head of School


St. Margaret’s School seeks an ordained Episcopal priest, preferably with experience in school chaplaincy. This position demands outstanding organizational and communication skills. The ideal candidate will have a passion for school ministry and the ability to engage effectively with students, parents, and faculty. St. Margaret’s is a diverse community, therefore the ability to portray a firm faith commitment while respecting the religious traditions of others is a necessary quality for this candidate. The candidate must also possess a collaborative spirit and be able to work effectively with others.

Founded in 1921, St. Margaret’s School is an Episcopal boarding and day school with 120 girls in grades 8–12 and postgraduate. The student body is 30% international, representing 14 countries. Located on the banks of the Rappahannock River in Tappahannock, Virginia, an hour northeast of Richmond and two hours from the Washington DC metro area, St. Margaret’s offers the intimacy of a small school with impressive academic and co-curricular offerings.
