The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive and dynamic communications, marketing, and public relations strategy for the School. The Director will develop, implement, and guide messaging to strengthen internal and external awareness and understanding of the School.

 

POSITION: Director of Marketing and Communications


REPORTS TO: Head of School

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Communications

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications plan that supports the School’s strategic priorities, addressing the needs of the various external and internal stakeholders, including prospective families, current families, alumni, faculty, friends and supporters of the School.

  • Manage the School’s print and electronic communications, ensuring continuity of brand and mission. 

  • Guide and support the Head of School as chief spokesperson for the School.

  • Create and maintain the School’s crisis management communication plan.

Marketing, Branding & Publications

  • Build a message and brand identity that appropriately supports and reflects the values, identity and aspirations of the School.

  • Compile, organize, and write original copy; proofread and edit copy for internal and external publications and correspondence.

  • Work with the Advancement and Enrollment to drive specific initiatives.   

  • Support faculty in communications related to curricular programs.

  • Lead the editorial direction, design, production, and distribution of print, digital, and social media content to a wide range of stakeholders.

  • Understand, analyze, and monitor market trends and brand positioning in the independent school market – bringing perspective to strategic growth conversations.

Website & Social Media

  • Direct  and maintain the School’s website -  design, content development, and functionality - including internal components of the website portals, with a specific eye towards maintaining the visual image and voice of the School.

  • Create content, manage and maintain all social media channels and monitor key comparative metric indicators.

Ideal Experience / Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent editor, storyteller with strong communication skills.

  • Effective writing skills and the demonstrated ability to craft substantive and cohesive messages based on strategic priorities and communicate successfully to key audiences.

  • Ability to create compelling content as well as identify and generate creative story ideas.

  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders and colleagues at all levels, as well as the ability to work collaboratively and proactively.

  • Demonstrated organizational abilities and success in managing multiple projects, and meeting deadlines.

  • Strong leadership and strategic thinking skills with a solid grasp of industry best practices and an understanding of all aspects of communications, positioning, and messaging.

  • Understanding and mastery of traditional and emerging media, from print to social media, in conveying information and content in ways that engage and motivate constituents.

  • Strong creative and design sensibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Minimum five years’ experience in marketing, communication or public relations, preferably in independent schools or non-profit organization.

Terms of Employment

Administrative and exempt position. Competitive compensation, commensurate with experience. Benefits package includes, but not limited to medical, life, and dental insurance, retirement plan and vacation package. 


All school personnel must successfully complete a fingerprint background check through Live Scan and provide current tuberculosis clearance.
