Christ Episcopal School (CES) in historic Rockville Maryland seeks an exceptional educational leader to become its next Head of School beginning July 1, 2020. CES is an independent, coeducational day school offering Christian-based education for 155 students in preschool (2 years) through grade eight. Founded in 1966, CES is an outreach of Christ Episcopal Church, adjacent to the school. CES offers a rigorous academic curriculum along with programming that develops the whole child, thus "Inspiring Minds to Learn, Hearts to Love, Hands to Serve." CES is completing a capital building campaign and beginning construction on state of the art facilities for the school and church communities. 

The next Head of Christ Episcopal School will be a visible, engaged, and collaborative educational leader, able to articulate a clear vision, inspire and support others, and manage people, business, and programs in order to uphold and promote the school’s mission: Academic excellence, respect and a passion to serve are the inspiration for our community.   • Manage faculty and staff, to include recruitment and onboarding, performance evaluation, training, and professional development
  • Manage the financial and operational interests of the school, in keeping with the budgetary and strategic goals of the Rector and the Board
  • Strategically partner with the Rector in an effort to advance church and school initiatives
  • Oversee all aspects of the admissions/enrollment/retention process, ensuring successful enrollment of students, in keeping with the school’s commitment to growth, diversity, and inclusivity
  • Oversee all aspects of the curricula and programs to ensure mission-alignment
  • Actively and effectively communicate and engage with faculty, families, community members, and supporters
  • Act as the primary spokesperson for the school and represent CES in the community; seek and develop community partnerships

Experience, Skills, and Knowledge:

  • At least five years of senior administrative and management experience in an educational setting; prior experience as a classroom teacher in preschool, elementary and/or middle schools is desired.
  • Broad and deep knowledge of child and adolescent development, leading practices in teaching and learning, and an understanding of current research and thinking in education.
  • Experience working with students with a range of learning styles.
  • The ability to set and articulate clear goals and priorities; experience implementing programmatic changes that balance progress and innovation with reflection and maintenance of beneficial traditions.
  • Strong business and financial judgment and the ability to partner with administrators and governance leaders in establishing creative solutions to financial challenges.
  • The ability to communicate the story of an institution to both current and prospective constituents in order to support marketing, admissions, and fundraising efforts.
  • A deep understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion, and cultural competency; skill in growing and supporting programs and practices in these areas; and a recognition of one’s own identities and biases and how they may impact one’s perspectives and actions.
