St. Mark’s Episcopal School in Houston, Texas is seeking a creative, organized, team player to serve as a Lead Kindergarten Teacher.

The primary job of a Kindergarten teacher at St. Mark’s is to serve as the lead teacher in an exemplary program for five and six-year-old children. We are looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking and student-centered professional educator who is motivated by problem solving and leading students at this stage of their development and understands the role that technology plays in supporting the educational experience of 21st century learners. As a member of the Lower School faculty, the early childhood teacher is expected to support the mission and philosophy of the school. Three years of experience planning a centers-based classroom and holistic activities designed to enhance the development of bright, articulate children plus a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field required. Position hours are from 7:30 AM - 3:45 PM. The position begins on August 5, 2019.

St. Mark's seeks a lead Kindergarten Teacher with a passion for teaching five and six year old students who work at grade level and above.  The ideal candidate will work effectively as a member of a grade-level team to plan all aspects of the kindergarten program. As a member of the Lower School faculty, the kindergarten teacher will report to the Head of the Lower School and is responsible for maintaining an engaging kindergarten classroom environment, assessing and reporting the progress of the students, leading parent conferences and managing parent communication regarding all aspects of the kindergarten year.

Primary Functions:

  • Teach a class of 20 kindergarten students

  • Guide the work of an instructional assistant

  • Establish positive and supportive relationships with each student and family

  • Plan: a centers-based classroom that features learning in emergent literacy, manipulatives-based math, handwriting, traditional early childhood productive play, and thematic studies in science and social studies

  • Understand and apply assessment-based instruction

  • Communicate grade level goals, student learning, and classroom activities to parents

  • Be a contributing member of the Lower School faculty through curriculum committee work and the ongoing work of the division

Required Skills and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education

  • A deep understanding of educating the whole child

  • A passion for teaching and learning

  • A collaborative spirit

  • A personal commitment to professional growth

  • A minimum of three years of teaching experience

  • Genuine affinity for working with children and families in a highly engaged community

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Passionate approach for teaching young children

  • Knowledge and experience of working in an independent school
