Founded in 2012, the Episcopal School of Los Angeles is an Episcopal, independent, college-preparatory day school serving grades six through twelve. We’re looking for…

ESLA’s Language Department is seeking a teacher with an unshakable commitment to student success; whose classroom is filled with surprise & delight.

The ideal candidate has some or all of the following characteristics: 

  • Demonstrated success in meeting the needs of an ethnically, culturally, economically, and linguistically diverse group of 9th-11th grade students;
  • A commitment to equity and inclusion;
  • Experience designing curricula and differentiating instruction for a heterogeneous student body;

  • Eagerness to design textbook-free lessons and experiences using authentic resources;

  • Strong interest in building community partnerships that support language learning and intercultural competencies;

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of teaching experience in public, charter, parochial or independent schools, and;

  • A sense of humor and ability to meet students where they are.

 

Responsibilities…

  • Teach 5 sections of Upper School Spanish (levels 2 and 3); 

  • Preparation of course materials, and assessments, both working from existing curricular frameworks and through the development of new materials;

  • Participate in an after-school (3:30 - 5:30 p.m.) program one day a week (sports, clubs, performing arts, academic support, etc.);

  • Willingness to serve as an advisor to a small group of Middle or Upper School students;

  • Attend regular community gatherings, including, but not limited to, meetings, Chapel, lunch, and major Feast Days.

 

Requirements...

  • Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish;

  • Strong classroom management techniques differentiation skills to support the linguistic and cultural needs of non-native, Heritage Spanish speakers;

  • Work with School Administration to support students with distinct learning styles;

  • The ability to work collaboratively within the department as well as to seek out opportunities to collaborate with others;

  • A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree and/or teaching credential is preferred.
