The Upper School Spanish Teacher will prioritize a communicative approach to language learning wherein students and teachers work together to reach a common goal of “knowing how, when, and why to say what to whom” (World-Readiness Standards).  She/He will share the belief that language and communication are at the heart of the human experience and will collaborate with colleagues to design instructional programming that thoughtfully incorporates the 5 Cs (Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities). 

The Upper School Spanish Teacher will create opportunities for students to use real-world tasks and authentic materials within a cultural framework to achieve ever-increasing ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language) proficiency levels in presentational, interpersonal and interpretive functions of reading, writing, listening and speaking. She/ He will facilitate the development and strengthening of essential skills in language learning: listening and reading comprehension, writing and speaking, and grammatical concepts and vocabulary building.  The ideal candidate will recognize the importance of students’ familiarization with worldwide Spanish-speaking cultures through history, geography, music, art and literature.
