St. Mark’s 5/6 Computer Teacher is a crucial position for the students, families, and faculty at St. Mark’s Episcopal School.  While this position encompasses many different duties, its primary function is to plan, organize and implement an appropriate Computer instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.

St. Mark’s 5/6 Computer Teacher will: (Demeanor)

  • Receive students and parents as well as faculty, staff, and administration in a friendly, courteous manner, and be sensitive to how her/his demeanor is reflective of the School
  • Adapt accordingly to circumstances that arise
  • Communicate issues, questions, and circumstances to the Head of Middle School in a timely and professional manner

Essential Duties:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences
  • Develop schemes of work and lesson plans
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
  • Prepare classroom for class activities
  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
  • Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students’ varying needs
  • Regularly review materials and order new materials as needed
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
  • Use relevant technology to support instruction
  • Observe and evaluate students’ performance and development
  • Provide appropriate assignments and materials for students
  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, and assignments
  • Provide appropriate feedback on work
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development
  • Communicate student progress to parents on a regular basis
  • Update all necessary records accurately and completely
  • Prepare required reports on students and activities
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school
  • Serve as a student advisor
  • As a student advisor, perform certain duties including but not limited to student support, counseling students with academic problems, and providing student encouragement
  • Take morning attendance
  • Participate in school meetings and parent conferences
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs
  • Keep up to date with developments in subject area, teaching resources, and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities
  • Update weekly assignments in RenWeb by the end of the day on Friday
  • Update grades at least once a week
  • Work directly with the faculty on instruction and planning
  • Regularly update curriculum on Atlas Curriculum Mapping program

Other Duties

  • Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings, and other professional activities
  • Participates in various student and parent activities including Parent Guild, student clubs, and after-school activities
  • Creates an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and activity/learning centers
  • Escort advisory to chapel
  • Chaperone class trips and student dances
  • Teach an elective class
  • Supervise lunch duty and dismissal duty on a regular basis
  • Provide materials for substitute teachers
  • Write high school recommendations
  • Be available and observe the common areas as classes change
  • Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Middle School

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Works in a sometimes highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; to bend, stoop, and reach overhead
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled office environment
  • Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
