St. Mark’s 5-6 Science Teacher is a crucial position for the students, families, and faculty at St. Mark’s Episcopal School. While this position encompasses many different duties, its primary function is to plan, organize and implement an appropriate Science instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.

Essential Duties:
– Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences
– Develop schemes of work and lesson plans
– Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
– Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
– Use relevant technology to support instruction
– Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students
– Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development
– Update all necessary records accurately and completely
– Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
– Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school
– As a student advisor, perform certain duties including but not limited to student support, counseling students with academic problems, and providing student encouragement
– Participate in school meetings and parent conferences
– Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs
– Keep up to date with developments in subject area, teaching resources, and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities
– Work with the Science Department, Dean of Curriculum, and Head of Middle School in the ordering of materials for labs and dissections
– Regularly update curriculum on Atlas Curriculum Mapping program
– Supervise lunch, recess, and dismissal duty on a regular basis
– Provide plans and materials for substitute teachers when absent
– Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Middle School

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
– Works in a sometimes highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges
– Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
– Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; to bend, stoop, and reach overhead
– Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled office environment
– Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
