St. Mark’s Episcopal School is seeking a creative, organized, team player to serve as a 7th Grade Science Teacher (Life Science). This is an important member of the middle school faculty and reports directly to the Head of Middle School. We are looking for a forward-thinking and student-centered professional educator who is motivated by problem solving and leading students at this stage of their development. 

 

The St. Mark’s 7th Grade Science Teacher is a crucial position for the students, families, and faculty at St. Mark’s Episcopal School.  While this position encompasses many different duties, its primary function is to plan, organize and implement an appropriate science instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.

 

Duties:

  • Plan, deliver, and evaluate lessons
  • Assess student learning
  • Provide feedback and instruction to students
  • Serve as a middle school student advisor
  • Engage in curricular review and mapping
  • Nurture a partnering relationship with students and their families

 

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • A collaborative and joyful spirit 
  • A working knowledge of technology resources in education
  • A bachelor’s degree in education or a science-related field, advanced degree preferred
  • Experience in curriculum planning
  • An understanding of the implementation of design thinking in a classroom setting
  • Experience with inquiry and project based learning

 

Physical Requirements and Work Environment: 

  • Work in a sometimes highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges 
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time 
  • Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; to bend, stoop, and reach overhead 
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled classroom environment 
  • Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
