Bethany School is seeking a dynamic professional who will work closely with the teachers, parents and administrators to support students in fourth through eighth grades, especially those with learning differences. The Academic Support Specialist will collaborate with and assist teachers in implementing effective research-based strategies, pushing into the classroom to assist with differentiated instruction and implementation of accommodations, and working with students individually and in small groups to support effective student skill building and executive functioning strategies. This person is an integral part of the Student Support Team and helps serve as a liaison between the Student Support Team and the teachers and families.

Each Bethany faculty member is expected to demonstrate ability in the following areas:

  • Exhibits strong working knowledge of student cognitive development and learning preferences
  • Identifies and supports students’ social, emotional, and academic needs
  • Provides timely feedback to students, and collaborates with faculty to offer specialized support in pursuit of each student’s learning goals
  • Implements a wide array of pedagogical tools and strategies in appropriate and effective combinations
  • Facilitates and designs effective group/collaborative work and productive dialogue among students and teachers
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with students/families about classwork, learning goals and student progress
  • Demonstrates content knowledge and expertise; and scaffolds curriculum to ensure progress towards mastery
  • Collaborates and plans actively for learning with teachers and students
  • Implements backward design to align lessons, activities, and assessments

Successful candidates will have or be able to:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field required
  • At least three years’ experience in teaching, reading and interpreting academic screenings and evaluations, learning/support services or related field
  • Teaching Certification or equivalent training
  • A philosophy of education that aligns with the school’s mission and values
  • Display an ease while working with students, parents, faculty, and other constituencies
  • Manage and maintain sensitive and confidential records
  • Demonstrate initiative regarding job related tasks, responsibilities, and projects
  • Collaborate and work well in team settings
  • Prioritize student safety and security
  • Be dependable and professional: be punctual, complete work in a timely manner, be calm under pressure, and exercise sound judgement
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Find joy in the journey of promoting a lifelong love of learning in our students
  • Communicate effectively and professionally in writing and verbally
  • Proficient in the use of technology
  • Willing to participate in professional growth/development opportunities
