Imago Dei Middle School, a tuition-free, Episcopal middle school serving economically disadvantaged children and families in Tucson, AZ, seeks an Assistant Chaplain/Intern to support the Chaplain in providing worship, pastoral care, religious education, and maintenance of the Episcopal identity of the school. Imago Dei is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty through a comprehensive academic, social, physical, and spiritual experience. Students find community, and begin to realize their dreams in small classes with a 10:1 student/teacher ratio. At Imago Dei we promise never to give up on a child. We welcome children and families of all faith traditions and none, and the only admission criteria is qualification for the federal free- or reduced-lunch program.
Specifically we seek an individual already in the ordination process in The Episcopal Church, or discerning a call to ordained ministry within The Episcopal Church. A successful candidate will have a love of middle-school aged children, a love of life-long learning, some teaching experience, sensitivity to and appreciation of cultural and faith diversity, an understanding and commitment to Episcopal/Anglican spirituality, theology and ethos, a passion for justice, and a willingness to work toward becoming Beloved Community.
This position could be part- or full-time depending on the ideal applicant’s availability. The Assistant Chaplain will work closely with the Chaplain and school community to shape and implement worship and the religion curriculum, and to integrate Community Service and Graduate Support Services programs. Salary and benefits will be based on experience and hours (part- or full-time).
