St. Paul’s School seeks an Associate Dean of Students to begin duties in August 2023. This position requires someone with energy and enthusiasm, outstanding people skills, a sense of humor, meaningful experience working with adolescents, and demonstrated leadership in a school or community-based organization. A successful candidate will embrace the fully residential living experience and have a demonstrated gift for engaging a diverse student body.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The mission of the St. Paul’s School Dean of Students Office is to ensure that St. Paul’s is a community where students are respectful, responsible, and safe by delineating clear expectations, promoting positive behaviors, and holding students accountable. We strive not for perfection, but for an environment in which “being kind and living honorably” is the norm. The specific workload of the Associate Dean will be tailored to best match the needs of the school and the skill set and capacities of the candidate in combination with those of the other members of the Dean of Students team. The major areas of desired capacity and corresponding workload performed by an Associate Dean include (1) teaching, training, and collaboration with students and key stakeholders to build healthy community, (2) facilitate communication and shared supervision of the residential life related programs (3) support the development of pro-social behavior and discipline and restorative practice. The Associate Dean also teaches courses within the Living in Community (LINC) curriculum.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor of Arts degree, its equivalent, or higher (Masters preferred).
The Associate Dean must have a strong desire to contribute actively to the academic, athletic, residential, and co-curricular programs offered by the School. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Ability to think critically and solve problems, as well as handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Good judgment and ability to handle confidential/sensitive information with discretion
- Knowledge of social emotional competency areas and adolescent development
- Knowledge of sexual and relationship violence, alcohol and other drug content and prevention strategies
- Cultural competence and inclusivity in working with populations of diverse cultures and identities
Experience: It is preferred, but not necessary, that candidates have experience in a boarding school environment. Classroom teaching experience is preferred. As part of a residential boarding school, the candidate must enjoy working and living with faculty colleagues and adolescents.
SALARY: Competitive, based on experience.
