Stuart Hall School is an Episcopal boarding and day school in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia that provides a college preparatory education for area day students in grades 6-12 and boarding students from around the world in grades 8-12. Founded in 1844, the school is a member of the Episcopal Church Schools in the Diocese of Virginia, is fully accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools, and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools and the National Association of Episcopal Schools.

About the Position
The Science Teacher reports to the Dean of Faculty and works with other members of Stuart Hall’s academic leadership team to implement the STEM department’s academic program. The Science Teacher’s responsibilities include:
- Teaching 4 sections of Upper School Science classes, with a course load consisting of chemistry and either biology or other life sciences
- Facilitating afternoon Co-Curricular Activities
- Serving as faculty advisor to approximately 10-15 students
- Supporting the School’s mission and culture
- Contributing to the School’s residence life program, either through weekend activities support or as an on-campus faculty member
- Adhering to the guidelines in the employee manual
- Proactively providing parent and student communication
- Consistently pursuing personal professional growth
- Collaborating within the STEM Department as well as with all faculty
- Other duties as assigned by the Head of School

- Bachelor’s degree
- Expertise in areas of science typically covered in high school courses, including chemistry, biology, and environmental science
- Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with students, colleagues, and other adults
- Additional background, experience, and interests: if you have any of the following skills or experiences, you are encouraged to highlight them in your application materials, but please know an absence of any of these will not negatively affect your candidacy.
- Master’s degree or higher
- Prior teaching experience is a benefit but is not necessary
- Experience in other science fields or in mathematics
- Experience with Standards-Based Learning
- Experience with Project-Based Learning
- Previous experience and/or interest in boarding schools (residential life)
- An interest in being involved in other areas of school life, such as coaching, chaperoning weekend activities, or working with student groups
- Candidates who have prior experience or interest in teaching mathematics in addition to science will receive strong consideration
- Candidates who have the ability to teach multiple science disciplines will receive strong consideration
- Candidates with interest or experience in coaching or playing basketball, soccer, or tennis are encouraged to express this interest when applying
