St. John’s Parish Day School, Ellicott City, Maryland a suburb or Baltimore announces a search for a full-time, 10-month, Pre-school and Lower School Chaplain beginning August 2022. St. John’s Parish Day School (SJPDS) seeks a school chaplain who is passionate about working with pre-school-5th grade children to encourage their spiritual exploration and creative growth, who is willing to walk alongside our students, faculty, staff and families with insight, warmth and good humor.
As a chaplain in an Episcopal Parish day School, the School Chaplain will be both grounded in Episcopal traditions and offer joyful and sensitive support for the broader spiritual life of the school community. We root our chaplaincy in Episcopal tenets, traditions, and rhythm of the Church year, while attending to and celebrating the diversity of religious expression and values in our community.
Serving as chaplain for both the Pre-School and Lower School, the School Chaplain is responsible for pastoral care, worship, teaching a story based curriculum to classes daily, working with the lower School Student Counsel and leads the weekly chapel services for the both the Pre-School and Lower School and collaborates with faculty on prayer, and planning all-school weekly services. The Chaplain reports to both the Rector of St. John’s and the SJPDS Head of School.
Salary is competitive and based on experience. Benefits include optional housing available on campus for a single individual or couple in addition to health, dental and retirement. A qualified candidate will be an ordained Episcopal priest, or an ordained deacon with the intention of priesthood. The typical School day runs from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Chaplain has the opportunity to support the life of the Parish serving once a month on the Parish worship weekend worship leadership rotation and coordinating Pastoral Care needs for SJPDS families with the St. John’s Pastoral Care Staff. Other responsibilities include dismissal time coverage, recess, lunch table oversight, regular grade-level team discussions, faculty meetings, Administrative team meetings, and other duties as assigned.
SJPDS requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any boosters recommended and available to the general public, absent eligibility for medical or religious exemptions.
