St. Andrew’s-Sewanee School seeks a dynamic Director of College Counseling with a commitment to boarding and day school education within a diverse and welcoming Episcopal environment. This is a 10+ month (extends slightly beyond the academic year), full-time position, and reports to the Associate Head of School/Academic Dean. Outstanding candidates will be self-directed, possess exceptional rapport-building and communication skills, have a generally upbeat and enthusiastic disposition, and enjoy working with other adults to encourage challenge, balance, and joy in the lives of adolescents.

Duties and Responsibilities will include:
• Develop and lead the college counseling process, guiding students and families through all stages of college admission, including college research, application, and selection, and athletic recruitment and financial aid application, when applicable
• Provide individual college admission counseling for students in grades 11 and 12
• Write letters of recommendation and guide the faculty in their participation in the application process
• Organize programs, workshops, and communication for students and families on academic expectations for college, timeline for the college search, the financial aid process, and standardized test preparation, including coordinating visits to national college fairs held in the area
• Help identify opportunities for students to pursue résumé building experiences and recognition and manage the application process for the Tennessee Governor’s Schools
• Maintain deep knowledge of colleges across the country and cultivate strong relationships with college admission offices
• Represent the school at conferences, events, and activities that will enhance and promote the understanding of the school among college admission professionals
• Schedule and host college representatives on campus
• Coordinate standardized testing (PSAT, SAT, ACT, AP) for upper school students
• Work with the Associate Head of School/Academic Dean and advisors to establish long-term academic plans for each student in the Upper School and to advise students on course selection and registration based on academic and career aspirations
• Work closely with the Assistant to the Academic Dean to keep accurate records of students’ testing and academic work
• Opportunities to teach, coach, and/or serve as a club sponsor
• Serve as a member of the Curriculum Committee
• Participate in campus life
• Perform additional duties as directed by the Head of School and the Associate Head of School/Academic Dean
As with all faculty members, the Director of College Counseling leads weekend activities, provides weekend and evening campus supervision, and helps plan and execute class trips, retreats, and special events throughout the year.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
• Commitment to St. Andrew’s-Sewanee’s mission and vision and comfort with the tenets of the Episcopal Church
• Possess undergraduate and/or advanced degree and at least five years of experience in working with adolescents in an educational setting
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Exceptional organizational skills; detail-oriented
• Strong proficiency with technology, including SCOIR, and familiarity with a variety of instructional technology
• Strong interpersonal skills
• A willingness to fully participate in a boarding school environment, and
• A philosophical alignment with our core values and curriculum.
Applicants with 3-5 years of college counseling and/or college admission experience and experience working in independent schools will be given special consideration.

COMPENSATION:
This is a full-time, academic year position. Salary is dependent on education and experience. Benefits include a tuition remission plan, health and dental insurance, worker’s compensation, short-term and long-term disability, group life insurance, defined contribution retirement plan, and eligibility for grants for professional enrichment and continuing education.
