Overview
The National Association of Episcopal Schools (NAES) seeks a qualified consultant to serve as Project Coordinator for the first year of the Episcopal Chaplaincy Connection Initiative (ECCI), a grant-funded project establishing the first comprehensive network linking Episcopal school chaplains with Episcopal college and university chaplains across the United States.
Project Summary
This groundbreaking initiative will create sustainable connections between K-12 and higher education chaplains, ensuring NAES alumni maintain access to Episcopal spiritual care during their college years while strengthening the broader Episcopal chaplaincy community nationwide. Year 1 focuses on research, database development, network building, and piloting the alumni referral system.
Scope of Work – Year 1
The Project Coordinator will be responsible for:
Phase 1: Research & Database Development (Months 1-6)
- Conduct comprehensive research to identify Episcopal chaplains and campus ministry leaders at colleges and universities nationwide through the Church Pension Clergy Finder, Episcopal Asset Map, diocesan networks, denominational resources, and direct outreach
- Oversee creation of searchable online database or a network within an existing one with chaplain contact information, institution details, service offerings, and campus ministry program descriptions
Phase 2: Network Building & Pilot Program (Months 7-12)
- Market new database and network to campus ministries
- Host virtual gatherings connecting school and college chaplains for relationship building and dialogue
- Launch and manage pilot program with 10-15 Episcopal schools to test alumni referral process
- Create toolkit for school chaplains including communication templates, best practices, and transition resources
- Collect feedback and refine processes based on pilot experiences
- Prepare recommendations for Year 2 expansion and programming
Year 1 Deliverables
- Comprehensive database of 75+ Episcopal college and university chaplains
- At least 3 virtual convenings connecting school and college chaplains
- Pilot program implemented with 10-15 schools, facilitating 100+ alumni referrals
- Evaluation report with recommendations for Year 2
Required Qualifications
- Proven project management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders
- Strong research and database development capabilities
- Experience planning and executing virtual convenings
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with Episcopal schools and/or higher education contexts
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with NAES staff
- Proficiency with online collaboration platforms and database systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Episcopal Church ministry, campus ministry, or educational chaplaincy
- Experience working with NAES or Episcopal Church and educational institutions
- Network of contacts within the Episcopal chaplaincy community
- Grant project management experience
- Knowledge of student transition and faith formation issues
Time Commitment & Compensation
- The position is an independent contractor
- 0.7 FTE (approximately 28 hours/week)
- Compensation: $30/hrÂ
- This is a remote consulting position with minimal travel required for virtual convenings
Note on Future Years
This RFP is for Year 1 only. Pending successful completion of Year 1 objectives and continued grant funding, the consultant may be invited to continue in Years 2 and 3, which will include planning and executing national and regional in-person gatherings.
