St. Thomas’s Day School, a co-educational independent day school in New Haven, Connecticut, seeks an Equity and Inclusion Specialist.

The School is a diverse community of children, teachers, parents and parishioners working together to foster learning in the context of faith and personal commitment. As a mission of Saint Thomas’s Episcopal Church, the Day School seeks to educate children broadly by cultivating intelligence while engaging heart and spirit. The School seeks to motivate children of diverse races, creeds and backgrounds to become independent thinkers who appreciate, understand and serve others.

Position Summary

The Equity and Inclusion Specialist will have the primary responsibility of supporting and advancing a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion and justice at St. Thomas’s Day School. He/she will be responsible to lead the School in its on-going efforts to foster a deep sense of connection and belonging for every member of the St. Thomas’s community. This new position will lead the St. Thomas’s Day School community in the design and implementation of an equity plan and framework that will guide campus-wide decisions, practices and policies.  

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with school stakeholders (students, families, faculty, staff and school leadership) to promote inclusion through programming and workshops. 
  • Engage elementary school students proactively through respectful dialogue and experiences to deepen their understanding of who they and their role in shaping a just, equitable, and inclusive world.
  • Coordinate ABAR, DE professional development.
  • Create, foster, lead and advocate for the school’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice programs and policies. 
  • Work with faculty on curriculum to foster cultural competencies. 
  • Conduct an institutional assessment to collect data to create a holistic data story to influence engagement.
  • Be an active member of the hiring and admissions committees to promote equity. 


  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Recent and relevant experience implementing successful equity-related initiatives.
  • Recognized trainings and workshops around training in ABAR, DEI, Restorative Practice, Family Engagement, RULER.
  • Demonstrated experience working with students, families, faculty, staff and school leadership.
  • Excellent communication, writing and strong personal and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with curriculum development and social emotional learning (CASEL).
