Position Summary The Head Chaplain at Saint Andrew’s School plays a central role in helping the school live out its mission as an Episcopal school. This position will have the responsibility to lead the religious and spiritual aspects of the school and greater community. This multifaceted role will require an optimistic, goal oriented, proven educator of young people. Leading with passion for the school’s mission and compassion for those who are in the midst of fulfilling it, the Head Chaplain of Saint Andrew’s School encourages, educates, and directs within the Spirit’s role of the education of the whole child in… Mind, Body, and Spirit.
Reports to Head of School
Duties and Responsibilities
Worship
Work with divisional chaplains to plan, conduct, and oversee weekly chapel services, including securing guest speakers
Incorporate students, faculty, and staff in chapel planning and participation
Develop and oversee the student vestry
Plan (with chaplains, students, faculty, and others) all special services, including Ash Wednesday, Lessons and Carols, Saint Andrew’s Day, Baccalaureate, Commencement, and others
Work with chaplains to advise and lead Christian Fellowship groups and Interfaith groups in each division
Maintain and encourage regular prayer for those in the school family
Schedule, preside, and preach at Eucharistic services
Counseling and Pastoral Care
Work with students in pastoral counselor-client relationship
Work with faculty and staff to identify and help students in need
Minister to the needs of faculty, staff, and families as opportunities present themselves
Collaborates with school counselors in times of crises
Informs the community of pastoral announcements including, marriages, births, funerals
Academic
Teach up to three classes each semester
Oversee the development of religion and ethics classes and education in all divisions
Work with divisional chaplains and division heads to plan Spiritual Journey Days
Attend NAES meetings and promote NAES programs
Attend FCIS functions when appropriate
Work with the diocese in planning local diocesan school events
Community Life
Work with the Director of Experiential Learning on community service and outreach
Participate in local clergy association
Attend diocesan convention and meetings
Live on campus and participate in regular residential life duties
Work with administration, faculty, and staff to develop and implement diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts
Work with chaplains in supporting faculty devotions in all divisions
Administration
Attend senior administration meetings and other meetings as necessary
Supervise divisional chaplains and hold regular meetings with them
Oversee Chaplaincy budget
Master’s Degree – M.Div or equivalent
Ordained Episcopal Priest
Demonstrated cultural competence
Proven administrative ability
Ability to work as a member of a team
Significant classroom teaching experience
