Head of School

Episcopal Day School
Augusta, GA United States

Episcopal Day School (EDS) is a preschool through grade 8 school of 360 students in the heart of Augusta, Georgia.  EDS is a mission of the Church of the Good Shepherd and exists to guide children to discover their place in God’s world for lives of wisdom, love, and service. Informed by a Christian perspective, EDS offers an education that attends to the nurturing and development of the whole child, so that each may form a sure foundation for life.

The oldest independent school in Augusta, founded in 1944, EDS welcomes families and students from all faith traditions and backgrounds, knowing that our community is enriched by that diversity. EDS is expert in early childhood education, focusing on the most critical, foundational years where children can build critical life skills like leadership traits, collaboration, analytical thinking, and a moral compass.

The historic Walton Way Campus includes age-appropriate facilities for each of the three divisions – preschool, lower school, and middle school. A library, gymnasium, music and art rooms, courtyard, athletic field, and playgrounds complete the main campus. In addition to the Walton Way location, EDS recently completed the phase 1 development of the new 38-acre Flowing Wells Campus. In addition to housing the EDS Nature School, a nature-immersion PK and Kindergarten program founded in 2019, the Flowing Wells Campus master plan balances space and facilities for faith and community, sports and fitness, and teaching and learning.

EDS seeks a leader to build upon the success of Dr. Ned Murray who has served as Head of School since 2003. The next Head will be expected to lead the faculty, promote the school, articulate the value proposition, and work with the Board to engage in strategic planning. The Head of School is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of the school and works closely with the Board of Trustees.
