Position Summary
In cooperation with the Assistant Head of School, the K-6 Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing the instructional program in accordance with the School’s mission, goals, objectives, and philosophy of learning.
Qualifications
Advanced Degree (MA/MS preferred) in Elementary Education
Minimum 3-5 years experience teaching students at the elementary level (Grades K-6)
Expertise in teaching reading and writing
Knowledge of a variety of approaches to math instruction
Experience creating hands-on, developmentally appropriate social studies curriculum
Strong personal and interpersonal skills

- Work collaboratively with colleagues in the development of curriculum, teaching methods, and instructional strategies that inspire, motivate, and appropriately challenge students.
- Arrange for interesting and relevant field trips, presentations, performances, and guest speakers to supplement the learning that is happening in the classroom and meet the needs of a diverse student body.
- Monitor performance and behavior, keeping consistent, reliable records on the development of each student as a whole person, including academic, social, and emotional needs.
- Maintain and care for the classroom and an inventory of textbooks, teaching materials, equipment, and furniture.
- Supervise and mentor assigned instructional support staff, including, but not limited to, assistant teachers, teaching aids, parent volunteers, and student teachers.
- Participate in school events, community meetings, faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and inservice days, contributing positively and proactively in support of the school.
- Interact with colleagues in a respectful and collegial manner that fosters a healthy faculty culture.
