Infant Program Teaching Assistant
St. Martin’s Episcopal School is looking for a Teaching Assistant to work in our new Falcons Classroom (approximately ages 18-24 months old). We seek candidates who support our mission and are culturally competent and responsive. The ideal candidate will have already completed the State of Georgia (Bright from the Start) Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for Infant Caregivers, and have two years of experience working with infants (ages 8 weeks – 24 months). A Bachelor or Associates degree is preferred but not required.
The candidate could also be a high school graduate, at least 19 years of age, working towards a degree in early education, or holds the CDA credential for Infants, and has two years of experience in an early childhood program. CPR and First Aid a plus, other trainings and background checks will be required upon hire.

Responsibilities and Duties
Early Childhood Infant Teachers operate the classroom in compliance with all Georgia child care licensing standards. S/He ensures that child care routines are carried out in a manner that is prompt, hygienic, and consistent with good child development principles. This includes routines related to diapering, hand washing, eating, napping and transitioning between activities and co-curricular classes. The position also ensures that parents receive adequate information about their child’s experiences at the school through daily contacts and regularly scheduled parent conferences. The Teacher provides daily care individually to each infant, including but not limited to diapering every 2 hours and feeding on demand. The Teacher also observes children to detect signs of illness, injury, emotional distress, or other special needs and report these signs immediately to the Early Childhood Principal.
- Provide a safe and loving environment for the infants in his/her care
- Be the primary caregiver for children in the classroom
- Give bottles to infants as provided by parents
- Feed infants’ solid foods as age appropriate and provided by parents
- Change diapers as needed
- Soothe infants by singing to and cuddling them
- Supervise infants on the floor as they play with age appropriate toys
- Put infants in cribs for nap time
- Ensure play, sleep and changing areas are kept clean
- Appropriately supervise children while keeping them safe at all times
- Engage children in activities and play that stimulates their development
- Ensure the safety and well-being of each child by responding to their emotional, social, and physical needs as well as their educational needs
- Utilize developmentally appropriate practice and best practice methods at all times
- Assist children with activities of daily life (restroom use, diapering, hand washing)
- Approach parents daily and speak with them about their child(ren)
- Caring individual who enjoys teaching young children
- Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences
- Be mentally and physically capable of caring for a large group of children alone in a classroom
- Great customer service skills to communicate effectively with parents
- Have an awareness of the unique needs of young children and have appropriate expectations
- Be able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry children up to 70lbs
- Be available for full time employment and available to work as early as 9:15am and as late as 6:15pm
- Have dependable transportation
- Completion of the Early Childhood courses as designed by the state
- Meet annual professional development requirements as required by the school
- Ability to pass a background check
- Extended periods of time sitting on the floor
- Ability to work year-round
- Must be able to work well together on a team with other teachers
- Create and maintain an environment that is clean, organized, and safe for all children
- Establish a professional level of rapport with each family in order to provide quality care and friendly service
- Lead Teacher may train and supervise teacher aides in the classroom, ensure they are following program policy and expectations, and direct them as to what duties need to be carried out throughout the day
- Plan daily activities that are developmentally appropriate for young children
- Conduct child assessments and facilitate parent-teacher conferences
- Attend and engage in occasional parent participation events and other events that may be on nights and/or weekends
- Maintain a professional self-image and project the values of the organization at all times
