Overview: The Instructional Support Specialist promotes and nurtures the education of students by supporting the lower school faculty and leadership team, as we ensure that all students are learning in accordance with the mission and values of the school. Their primary focus is on helping teachers with best practices in teaching and learning by providing resources, materials, and in-classroom support. They work directly with students by providing differentiated learning opportunities through a push-in and small group pull-out model. A background in differentiated learning strategies and models, as well as a constructivist approach to teaching and learning, are a bonus. This instructional support specialist supports the lower school faculty and students in Grades K-4.
Responsibilities – Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Partner with Lower School teachers to ensure systematic instruction, horizontal and vertical alignment, and creation of lesson materials that are in alignment with the curriculum
- Assist in the classroom to provide differentiated small group instruction and model support in best teaching practices
- Provide support to classroom teachers to ensure fidelity and consistency for students with accommodation plans
- Collaborate with other members of the Lower School Instructional Support Team to develop and deliver professional development sessions for teachers
- Assist grade-level teams in grades K-4 with thrice-yearly benchmark assessments – providing organizational and technical support for the collection, scoring, and reporting of assessment data
- Work alongside other members of the Lower School Instructional Support Team to analyze benchmark assessments and progress monitoring data for each grade level to identify areas of need and develop intervention strategies
- Co-create a thrice-yearly presentation to share at grade-level Data Response Team (DRT) meetings that identifies grade-level and individual student strengths and areas of need through the analysis of benchmark data
- Lead and participate in Lower School grade-level DRT meetings
- Assist with the coordination efforts for teacher training, materials management, and assessment data for supporting classroom instruction
- Provide mentorship and collaboration to classroom teachers in delivering a highly engaging, meaningful, and purposeful learning experience in the classroom
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Heads of Lower School that further supports the Instructional Support role
Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited school, education-related training, and a minimum of five years classroom teaching experience are required, as well as a strong understanding of Lower School curriculum and instruction and experience working with students and teachers. Excellent communication skills are expected, and an ability to be an innovative, collaborative, and a positive member of a faculty is imperative.
