The Learning Specialist will assist the Resource Director in supporting all students with a focus on students with different learning needs/styles in the areas of reading, writing, and language intervention and remediation to ensure that each student may learn and develop academically, socially, and emotionally in an enriching environment.

The Learning Specialist works in partnership with classroom teachers to support and advance students with different learning needs within the classroom and maintains communication with teachers and parents on student’s academic, social, and emotional achievements, progress, and needs.

Knowledge, Skills, and General Abilities:

  • Ability to engage with diverse learning styles and abilities
  • Has current and comprehensive knowledge of a variety of teaching
  • strategies and classroom management techniques
  • Understands best instructional practices and curriculum development related to language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with Resource Director, classroom teachers, and parents in proactive and professional ways
  • Possess strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated, problem solver, and flexible
  • Ability to integrate technology into the curriculum
  • Proficient with Google, Google Classroom, Zoom, Microsoft Office, and other related
  • technologies

Minimum Requirements and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Special education degree preferred
  • 4+ years of prior teaching experience of students with diagnosed learning differences or experience as a Learning Specialist
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information in a professional manner with parents, students, faculty, staff, and outside professionals
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information
  • Enthusiasm for, and experience in, working with a diverse community

This position is approximately 15 hours per week.
