Position Summary
The PK-8 Literacy Instructional Coach is responsible for spearheading the implementation of the Saint Andrew’s literacy curriculum, including planning for instruction, assessment, data analysis, and instructional interventions; coordinating appropriate professional development for faculty; offering one-to-one, small group, and whole faculty coaching to enhance the delivery of literacy instruction; helping to foster a culture of reading and writing; and collaborating with the Head of Lower School, the Head of the Middle School, the Dean of Studies, and the English Department Chair as appropriate to ensure student learning and achievement in literacy.
Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinate with the Department Chair on the vertical alignment of a coherent literacy program PK-8
Model and demonstrate effective use of instructional strategies, including those aligned with the school’s adopted programs such as Teachers College Reading and Writing Project (TCRWP) Units of Study and IB PYP/MYP
Plan for the collection of student data about performance in literacy PK-8
Analyze student data for performance trends and plan appropriate instructional responses at the classroom, grade, and divisional levels
Use assessment data to collaborate with and assist administrators an learning specialists with the placement of students in appropriate instructional or intervention programs
Observe classroom instruction and coach teachers to ensure strategies and methods of instruction are being effectively implemented to meet student needs
Support teachers in the development of appropriate assessment tasks and tests
Support the continued growth and development of all students, including those above grade-level
Conduct professional development workshops appropriate to various levels of instruction
Participate in team reviews concerning academic progress of at-risk students who are not responding to interventions
Collaborate with librarians and teachers to develop and support programs that promote an appreciation of reading and writing
Maintain a collection of professional materials related to literacy instruction that reflect current research
Establish and promote productive relationships with and among school staff
Communicate regarding the school’s literacy program to staff, parents, and members of the community
Serve on Academic Affairs Committee and Lower/Middle School leadership teams, as needed
Teach one or two sections as needed
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
Record of successful teaching
Demonstrated ability to work successfully with a team of educators
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Excellent organizational skills
Cross-cultural competence
A growth mindset
Experience with the International Baccalaureate PYP or MYP program preferred
