Long Term Substitute for Upper and Middle School Mandarin Teacher

St. Martin’s Episcopal School is currently seeking an experienced and engaging long term substitute teacher for Upper and Middle School Mandarin who is intellectually curious, passionate, and patient, and will inspire middle and upper school students to explore and uncover the beauty of the Mandarin language within a challenging academic environment. . This position would be needed from January 2, 2023 through February 10, 2023.


●      Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution (required)

●      Valid Louisiana Teaching Certification or evidence of eligibility for one

●      2+ years of teaching Mandarin in a school environment

●      Knowledge of relevant technology

●      Demonstrates strong work ethic to achieve school goals

●      Have knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices in secondary education

●      Have the ability to conform to an established work schedule

●      Have effective interpersonal skills

●      Have the ability to communicate in a concise and effective manner



●      In order to maximize student learning and mastery, St. Martin’s Middle and Upper Schools utilize a seven-period rotating schedule. The successful candidate will need to be available at different times throughout the day in order to meet with students.

●      The Teacher works to organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program and learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential

●      The teacher will teach four (4) Mandarin classes, including:

3 Middle school classes: Grade 5, Grade 6, Grade 7/8

1 High school class: Chinese III/Chinese IV Honors

●      The Teacher is responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth

●      Works to achieve the academic goals for the world language department

●      Understands, communicates, and exemplifies the goals and vision of the organization

●      Contributes to and maintains the organization’s culture and identity, using the organization’s Core Values as a guide

●      Models professional, confidential and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community

●      Develop schemes of work and lesson plans

●      Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities

●      Prepare classroom for class activities

●      Observe and evaluate student performance and development

●      Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, and assignments

●      Provide appropriate feedback on work

●      Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and development

●      Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures

●      Use relevant technology to support instruction
