COMPENSATION         $50,000-$65,000 based upon various factors, including education, credentials, and experience

The Gooden School, a co-educational, independent Episcopal K-8 school in Sierra Madre, CA is seeking a full-time Lower School Lead Teacher beginning in July/August 2023. The lead teacher is responsible for instruction in math, social studies and language arts. Additionally, the lead teacher works with our engaged and motivated students as they participate in chapel services and community engagement projects. Through our outstanding academic program and a strong sense of community, adults and students embody our motto, “Respect for Self, Respect for Others, Respect for the World.”

Lead teachers focus not only on academic and critical-thinking skills, but also on social and emotional growth, and specialist teachers offer wide array of enrichment activities. Our Episcopal spirit and values are infused throughout the curriculum, and include the Restorative Behavior Intervention Support system.

Key Responsibilities Include

-Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons to meet student needs

-Ensure the classroom environment includes clear and consistent routines and expectations that encourage students to work collaboratively and independently

-Ensure the classroom environment is safe for all learners, and supervise arrival, dismissal, recess, playground activities, and transitions between classrooms

-Provide differentiated experiences to all learners

-Provide constructive, timely, specific feedback to students to foster a growth mindset

-Observe, evaluate, encourage, and report on students’ academic and social development and progress

-Form responsive and supportive relationships with students and families

-Communicate regularly with students, families and colleagues regarding students’ progress and needs

-Work collaboratively and respectfully with colleagues

-Work with the Student support Team to create and implement student support plans

-Seek knowledge of current instructional theories and best practices through participating in professional growth opportunities

-Participate in school-wide events and traditions that support the school and the Gooden Family Association, attend field trips, and assist in the Admissions Process

Required Experience/Education:

-Undergraduate degree required (Masters in education or related field and/or teaching credential preferred)

-Experience working with elementary school students and families

-Experience in Independent schools
