St. Martin’s Episcopal School is seeking an organized, energetic and personable Marketing and Communications Coordinator that reports to the Director of Development and the Headmaster. He/she is responsible for coordinating the overall communications operations of the school, including non-student publications, public relations, advertising, media efforts, and visual identity. The Marketing and Communications Director is a strategic thinker with a proven understanding of independent school public relations. The Director interfaces with all school divisions, departments, administrative offices, and auxiliary organizations and has a proven record of successful proactive public relations. He/she is highly motivated, talented, and a creative organized performer who can work with minimum supervision.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Marketing/Admission

  • Work closely with Admission Office to develop and implement a comprehensive admission-marketing plan.
  • Devise yearly Admission advertising campaign, oversee ad design, place and track advertising and manage budget.
  • Design and produce Admission materials. Produce internal and external communications that educate all constituencies about the benefits of a St. Martin’s education.
  • Devise yearly Summer at Martin’s advertising campaign, oversee ad design, place and track advertising and manage budget.

Publications

  • Create and maintain an annual communications calendar.
  • Write, edit, design, layout and supervise printing of all non-student publications. Oversee contract designers and mailing/distribution for various publications and potentially any other literary publication.
  • Develop and maintain relationships as School’s primary liaison with appropriate editors and reports and maintain and update a listing of all press contacts.
  • Develop professionally, gaining knowledge and expertise in media and corporate public relations. Write and have pertinent feature stories relating to the independent school community. Write, edit, design, supervise layout and printing on a variety of brochures.
  • Write, edit, design, layout and supervise printing of fund raising materials including letterhead, brochures, envelopes and newsletters for Annual Giving, capital campaigns and other programs as needed.
  • Design, layout and supervise printing of various invitations, fliers, postcards and programs needed by divisions and the school’s auxiliary organizations.
  • Design, layout and supervise printing of reenrollment materials annually under the supervision of the business office.

Social Media

  • Oversee all aspects of social media postings (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.)
  • Draft, edit and place posts on social media sites
  • Develop guidelines for submitting and placing content on social media sites

Public and Media Relations

  • Plan and implement the school’s public relations efforts geared to all audiences of Martin’s.
  • Coordinate media relations, draft and send news releases, pitch story ideas to reporters, respond to media inquiries, host media when on campus, maintain up-to-date media list and prepare bi-monthly clips for the Board of Trustees.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with members of the media and others in the community who can assist in advancing the profile of the school.
  • Cultivate faculty and alumni expertise and develop a program for independent media opportunities.
  • Conceptualize and write feature articles; gather materials from faculty, students and alumni for distribution to the media and to the independent school community.
  • Plan and implement the school’s public relations efforts, under minimal direction, geared to all audiences of St. Martin’s. This includes handing administrative details, working with external vendors, and interacting with appropriate School management. Prepare press releases for review.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor degree in a communications field.
  • At least 5 years experience managing multiple publications and public relations efforts
  • Extensive experience designing publications using Quark, PageMaker, PhotoShop, InDesign, Word software and G-Suite. Strong knowledge of prepress planning
  • Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Outgoing and approachable personality and is able to work with a variety of working styles and
  • Superior ability to read and write the English language sufficiently for completion of various written paperwork including, but not limited to: filing, record keeping, categorizing, drafting of correspondence, reports, etc.
  • Ability to learn and perform all essential job functions accurately with minimal direct supervision within one month of employment.
