Stuart Hall School is an Episcopal boarding and day school in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia that provides a college preparatory education for area day students in grades 6-12 and boarding students from around the world in grades 8-12. About the Position
The Math Teacher reports to the Dean of Faculty and works with other members of Stuart Hall’s academic leadership team to implement the STEM department academic program. The Math Teacher’s responsibilities include:
- Teaching 4 sections of Math classes, likely including the full range of course offerings from Algebra 1 through Calculus
- Facilitating afternoon Co-Curricular Activities
- Serving as faculty advisor to approximately 10-15 students
- Supporting the school’s mission and culture
- Contributing to the school’s residence life program as an on-campus faculty member
- Adhering to the guidelines in the employee manual
- Proactively providing parent and student communication
- Consistently pursuing personal professional growth
- Collaborating within the STEM Department as well as with all faculty
- Other duties as assigned by the Head of School

- Required background and experience: you must have everything on this list
- Bachelor’s degree
- Expertise in areas of mathematics typically covered in high school courses, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus
- Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with students, colleagues, and other adults
- Additional background, experience, and interests: if you have any of the following skills or experiences, you are encouraged to highlight them in your application materials, but please know an absence of any of these will not negatively affect your candidacy.
- Master’s degree or higher
- Prior teaching experience is a benefit but is not necessary
- Experience in other math fields or in science
- Experience with Standards-Based Learning
- Experience with Project-Based Learning
- Previous experience and/or interest in boarding schools (residential life)
- An interest in being involved in other areas of school life, such as coaching, chaperoning weekend activities, or working with student groups
- Candidates who have prior experience or interest in teaching science in addition to mathematics will receive strong consideration
- Candidates with interest or experience in coaching or playing basketball, soccer, or tennis are encouraged to express this interest when applying
- Candidates who are interested in living on campus and being part of the School’s residential life program will receive strong consideration.
