St. Mark’s Episcopal School is conducting a search for a full-time middle school teaching assistant.

St. Mark’s, established in 1979, is a coeducational parish day school, now serving over 460 students from age two through Grade 8 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The foundation of St. Mark’s program is to provide students with balanced exposure to academics, arts, athletics, and spiritual life.

The teacher assistant in the middle school aids faculty in a number of ways to support the social, emotional, and intellectual growth of each child in a nurturing and stimulating learning environment. Ideal candidates seek to work with middle school aged students, collaborate with team members, show an ability to multi-task, and remain organized. Most importantly, these candidates have the ability to respond to the distinct needs of middle school students, as communication with children of this age requires a healthy balance of structure, empathy, and humor.

Qualified candidates should have the following competencies:
Interest and willingness to work with and make connections with middle school aged students
Professional and polished interpersonal skills to build strong relationships
An understanding of the development of middle school students
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and supervisors

Provide direct supervision of middle students during indoor and outdoor activities
Support students in differentiated activities as directed by the teacher throughout the school day
Utilize Conscious Discipline strategies and techniques when working with students
Support teachers by completing assigned tasks (photocopying materials, attendance reporting, etc.)
Contribute to overall success of the school by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned by administrators

Preferred Professional Qualifications:

  • Experience working with middle school children
  • Familiarity with independent school culture
  • Comfort within a faith-based school
