Reading and Learning Specialist

STEPS is seeking a full-time Reading and Learning Specialist for the 2022-2023 school year. Applicants should enjoy working in a collaborative, student-centered environment. We welcome candidates of diverse backgrounds. Qualified applicants will be ready to provide individual and small group reading instruction and/or math support, as well as facilitating learning support for students in Grades 2 through 5.

Preferred applicants will enjoy working in a collaborative, student-centered environment. A Master’s Degree in a related field, preferably in Reading and/or certification as a Reading Specialist, as well as Wilson Reading System Certified Instructor (Level One or Two) or Orton-Gillingham Instructor (Classroom Educator or Certified Level) are prerequisites for the position. Ideal candidates have some familiarity with educational-psychological/neurological testing results analysis and the creation and implementation of accommodation plans for students, as well as experience working with students with learning differences.

Candidates applying to the Reading/Learning Specialist:

 

  • A Master’s Degree in a related field, preferably in Reading and/or certification as a Reading Specialist
  • Wilson Reading System Certified Instructor (Level One or Two) or Orton-Gillingham Instructor (Classroom Educator or Certified Level)
  • Familiarity with educational-psychological/neurological testing results analysis and accommodation plan creation
  • Experience working with students with learning and other disabilities
  • Ability to facilitate the implementation of classroom and testing accommodations
  • Regularly update parents about student progress and needs through email, telephone, progress reports and meetings
  • Oversee and facilitate benchmark screening
  • Degree in Special Education or a related field (not required)
