St. Martin’s Episcopal School seeks a School Chaplain who loves working with children and early adolescents, their parents, and teachers.  The position of School Chaplain is an opportunity for someone who enjoys and thrives in a dynamic early childhood through 8th-grade Episcopal school setting.  Pastoral care skills, teaching skills, administrative skills, writing skills, and speaking skills are all necessary for this position.  The School Chaplain serves on the senior administration team and reports to the Head of School.  The School Chaplain also teaches and is a visible presence at the school.  Being an ordained Episcopal priest or deacon is preferred but not required.

The core duties of the Chaplain include but are not limited to:

  • teaching at least 2 religion classes
  • chairing the Religion Department
  • chairing the SOLVE Committee, a school-wide community service program.
  • planning and Coordination of school chapel services
  • recruitment for and leadership of the Student Vestry
  • planning and coordination of school community services and events tied to Episcopal identity
  • attending administrative meetings
  • attending and supporting school-wide events
  • providing pastoral care for the St. Martin’s school community

Some position requirements include:

  • a Bachelor’s degree (a Master’s degree and ordination in the Episcopal Church are not required but preferred)
  • a demonstrated deep understanding of the relationship between curriculum, subject matter, and child development
  • a creative and innovative curriculum and approach to instruction
  • use of technology tools to advance student learning and growth
  • working in partnership with students and their families
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills with students and adults,­ patience, flexibility, empathy, and humor
  • experience and comfort with working in a diverse community

This is a full-time position with benefits.  The normal schedule for this role is Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 4 pm, including some early mornings, evenings, and weekends.  We are looking for someone who is able to serve in a 12-month contract role, renewable annually.  Salary is dependent upon education, training, and experience and is commensurate with other independent schools in the area.  All employees are expected to support the mission and vision statements of St. Martin’s Episcopal School, and to contribute to the overall life of the school.
