St. John’s Episcopal School, an independent Episcopal school in Rancho Santa Margarita for students 8 weeks old through 8th Grade, seeks a qualified and dynamic School Counselor to join its community for the 2021-22 School Year.

Position Type:            Full-time; 10-Month; August 23, 2021 – June 17, 2021

Reports to:                  Head of School

Compensation:         Based upon education and experience 

Essential Responsibilities:

Provide one-on-one and/or group social-emotional support to students in a relaxed, confidential atmosphere, on both a regular basis and/or as individual crises arise

  • Case-management, referral, and follow-up support for students or families requiring ongoing mental health supports, including facilitating advocacy and communication among students, families, teachers, and administrators for the support of each student’s unique needs
  • Create and implement educationally-sound, relevant health- and wellness-related interventions, programming, and co-curricular activities to foster better mental health and positive learning environments for students and families
  • Provide faculty support for identification, referral, curricular, and family conversations surrounding mental health wellness and needs for students within a school setting
  • Lead the Middle Division Advisory Program, including programming, advisor training, and student advisory activities seeking to support a positive, healthy, student-centered learning environment within the 6th-8th grades
  • Serve on Middle Division Leadership Team, and collaborate with advisors, grade-level teams, nurses, and administrators to provide comprehensive support to the whole child

Compelling Candidates Will Demonstrate Most or All of the Following Qualifications:

  • A Master’s Degree in School Counseling, MFT, MSW or related degree
  • Previous experience providing counseling or mental health support in a school-based, student-centered learning environment and/or a community-based, mission-driven institution
  • A genuine love for working with all types of students and families, a positive sense of humor and optimistic outlook, and a highly collaborative nature for working with other dedicated, team-oriented educators
  • Impeccable integrity, confidentiality, and communication skills, as well as understanding of and support of the St. John’s Episcopal School mission
