Senior  Middle School Chaplain

OVERVIEW:

St. Patrick’s Day School  is an Episcopal school  located in  Washington DC with a mission to serve children ages 3-8th grade.  St. Patrick’s is  committed to nurturing the whole child and  remaining faithful to our Episcopal roots. St. Patrick’s practices a relational model of faith and service.  We are looking for a Senior Middle  School  Chaplain who will  support the spiritual and pastoral needs of students, faculty, and families in grades 6-8th.  We are also  looking for a self starter and a priest who is secure in their own faith and development. As Senior Middle School Chaplain, this position will be responsible for working with the Head of School and the Rector of St. Patrick’s parish  to ensure that St. Patrick’s school is living into its Episcopal mission. This position is a Senior Administrator position within the life of the school. This is a unique and rare opportunity for the right priest to work in the heart of our nation’s capital and to provide spiritual formation to our Lower school community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Chapel Services: 
    • Plan and lead regular, developmentally appropriate chapel services for 6-8th students, typically held weekly or multiple times per week. 
    • Incorporate music, prayer, storytelling, and interactive elements that engage young children. 
    • Celebrate the liturgical seasons of the Episcopal Church and support school traditions and special services. Remain true to our Episcopal liturgy and theology, while also respecting and honoring students and families of other faith traditions. 
  • Plan religion curriculum: 
    • Working with the Rector, Lower School chaplain and religion teacher, take the leadership role in developing a curriculum. 
  • Provide Pastoral Care: 
    • Provide  pastoral support to students, families, faculty, and staff, both individually and in group settings, working with our school counsellors, and Sr leaders. 
    • Be a visible and supportive presence in the daily life of the Middle school. 
    • Deliver age-appropriate lessons in Episcopal identity, world religions, moral development, and character education. 
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate spiritual and ethical themes into broader curricular topics. Teach classes as needed( Ethics and Religion classes) 

 

  • Help lead the school’s Episcopal identity efforts and supervise the Lower school Chaplain and religion teacher. Work closely and collegially with the parish Rector to provide Episcopal vision and oversight.

 

             Collaborate and Communicate:

 

    • Work closely with the Rector,  Head of School , the Chaplain Team, and faculty to support the spiritual life of the school.
    • Supervise Lower School Chaplain 
    • Maintain open and sensitive communication with families regarding spiritual development and pastoral care.
  • Preach 3 times a year at St. Patrick’s Parish 

Qualifications:

  • Ordained Episcopal priest 
  • Demonstrated leadership and  experience working with young children in educational or pastoral settings. 
  • Strong understanding of Episcopal liturgy, theology, and practice.
  • Experience as chaplain in an Episcopal school
