St. Thomas’s is a coeducational independent day school serving students from Kindergarten through Grade 6. The School welcomes children of all backgrounds, with the belief that children who learn and grow together develop openness and respect for others. 

Position Summary 

In cooperation with the Administrative Team, the Social Worker will work closely with students, teachers, and parents to support the social, emotional, and behavioral well-being of our school community. This role will involve individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and collaborating with various stakeholders to address the unique needs of our students. 

Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree in Social Work from an accredited program
  • State licensure or certification as a School Social Worker
  • Previous experience working in an elementary school or with children and families
  • Empath patience and a genuine desire to make a positive impact on students’ lives
  • Strong personal and interpersonal skills 
  • Flexibility to work part-time hours during the school week.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions.
  • Work with teachers and staff to identify students in need of social/emotional support and develop appropriate interventions.
  • Collaborate with parents and guardians to understand students’ needs and create effective support plans.
  • Implement evidence-based strategies to improve students’ coping skills. emotional regulation, and social interactions.
  • Provide crisis intervention services when necessary and work with appropriate authorities to ensure the safety of students.
  • Collaborate with school administrators to develop and implement programs to support a positive school climate.
  • Participate in school-wide initiatives and contribute to the development of social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum.
