Located in the heart of Tampa, St. John’s provides an exceptional education for over 590 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. We are seeking a high-energy educator with a passion for working with middle division students and a strong background in design thinking, educational technology, and hands-on engineering. The successful candidate will guide students through an intentional, spiraled STEM curriculum: leading Grade 5 students through a quarterly Innovation Exploration course, teaching semester-long Innovation classes to Grades 6 and 7, and instructing advanced, elective-level courses in Robotics Engineering (using the VEX IQ platform) and Programming & Software Design for Grade 8. The start date for the position is July 31, 2026.

Responsibilities:

Design engaging lesson plans that incorporate creative writing, hands-on experiments, coding activities, and digital media to enhance student understanding.
Manage classroom environments to foster positive behavior, encourage participation, and ensure safety for all students.
Attending regular faculty meetings and other school events as appropriate;
Communicate regularly and effectively with students, families, and colleagues;
Demonstrate effective, positive classroom management;
Employ a variety of methodologies in teaching and instructing pupils, including but not limited to project-based learning, hands-on engineering activities, design thinking challenges, demonstrations, and discussions;
Model on a daily basis the conduct we expect of our students, and consistently exhibit the highest standards of professionalism;
Work individually and collaboratively with colleagues to create, plan, and prepare thoughtful lesson plans as part of an instructional program that is age-appropriate and addresses individual student needs;
Serve as the principal adult presence, advisor, and caregiver for each child in the advisory throughout the school day;
Attend all professional gatherings and in-service meetings;
Be available to consult with students, parents, and colleagues as part of parent conferences and on an as-needed basis;
Attend institutional gatherings and events as necessary or requested by the Head of School in support of the School’s mission;
Devote time and effort to ongoing professional growth.
Demonstrate intellectual curiosity, strong communication skills, and openness to others’ ideas; be eager to extend themselves for others.
Assess student performance through formative and summative evaluations.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Education, STEM fields, or related disciplines; advanced degrees preferred.
Proven classroom experience teaching grades 5 through 8 with a focus on STEM or innovation programs.
Experience in an independent school; middle school-level experience strongly preferred.
High level of competence using technology.
Skilled in lesson planning using various instructional methods; adept at integrating learning technology such as LMS platforms.
Excellent communication skills to engage students, parents, and colleagues effectively.
