Upper School English Teacher

St. Martin’s Episcopal School seeks an experienced, engaging, and collaborative English teacher for our Upper School beginning in August 2022. The ideal candidate will draw upon deep content knowledge bolstered by strong skills in pedagogy, communication, and classroom management. St. Martin’s English department is committed to developing mastery in close reading and critical thinking and to providing opportunities to practice analytical and creative writing. Equally important is an eagerness to join an innovative and highly collegial learning community committed to the academic, social, and emotional growth of students. 

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English; advanced degree preferred
  • At least three years of experience teaching English at the high school or university level; experience in teaching Advanced Placement English Literature and/or Composition preferred
  • A positive, professional, and collaborative work style
  • A student-centered perspective committed to ongoing professional growth and reflectiveness
  • A mindset that values positive relationships with students alongside high academic expectations 

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching four to five sections of Upper School English
  • Designing and implementing lessons that align with the 4-Dimensional curricular framework adopted by St. Martin’s – (Content, Skills, Character Development, and Meta-Learning)
  • Communicating as needed with parents and advisors to support student learning
  • Serving as an advisor to a small group of students and moderating one or more student clubs or activities
  • Supporting the Episcopal faith’s principles and ideals of acceptance and inclusiveness
  • Striving to support our school’s mission to prepare students to thrive in college and in life through Faith, Scholarship, and Service
