Upper School History Instructor

Grades 6-12 are housed on the Munnerlyn Campus, which is situated on 84 acres along the southern bank of the St. Johns River. Position Overview:

Episcopal School of Jacksonville is seeking a full-time history instructor in the History Department beginning with the 2023-2024 school year. The most competitive candidates will have experience with and a demonstrated interest in teaching World History and AP World History courses, though our department values those who are generally knowledgeable and have a clear passion for the study of history. Our History Department centers on the learner-centered and discussion-based Harkness Method. While candidates are required to have prior practice with this pedagogy, they should be interested and invested in this approach to the study of history. Due to the collegial nature of our faculty, a willing investment in collaborative efforts, professional growth, and the broader life of the school are all expectations of work at Episcopal. Contribution to the larger school community, through such means as academic advising and coaching or sponsoring of extracurricular programs, is expected of all community members.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate field of study from a four-year college or university, or post-graduate work in subject matter; an advanced degree is desirable.
• Three years of teaching experience in an independent school setting is preferred for any teaching position. However, consideration will be afforded to any qualified individual who has either worked in other educational settings or is new to the teaching profession, and who has a strong sense of vocation to work with students in an independent, college-preparatory environment.
