Upper School Learning Support Counselor

Purpose: The Upper School Learning Support Counselor is primarily responsible for assisting students diagnosed with learning disabilities in fulfilling their academic potential by consulting with teachers, administrators, outside professionals, families, and students to best address students’ needs while promoting independence and self-advocacy skills.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Three or more years of professional experience, experience in a school setting is preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited graduate program in psychology, counseling or education
  • Master’s in counseling or education or doctorate in psychology (clinical or educational) with appropriate certification/licensure (e.g., psychologist, educational diagnostician, licensed professional counselor)
  • Knowledge of psychoeducational assessment, differential diagnosis, learning disabilities, adolescent development, and educational accommodation planning
  • Familiarity with College Board and ACT accommodation process
  • Ability to communicate and advocate effectively while balancing multiple perspectives: school, teachers, students, parents, and administrators
