New Heads Conference 2013

Thursday, September 26 - Saturday, September 28, 2013

Minneapolis Marriott City Center
30 S. 7th Street [map]
Minneapolis, MN 55402

Whether you are first-time head, a first-time Episcopal school head, or seek time to reflect on your leadership in an Episcopal institution, this conference is for you. Heads of various types of Episcopal schools - parish day schools, early childhood programs, independent Episcopal day or boarding schools - will come together to reflect on the unique and sometimes unexpected dimensions of school leadership.

New and seasoned Episcopal school heads and NAES leaders will lead you through an examination of distinctive and oftentimes unaddressed aspects of Episcopal headship including: Episcopal identity, the spiritual life of a school, board-head and constituency relations, school finances, development and advancement issues, and the importance of self-care.

You will leave the conference ready for the joys and challenges of headship common to all independent schools and unique to Episcopal schools.

Who Should Attend:

This conference is designed for individuals in their first or second year of headship in an Episcopal school.

Tips for Making the Case for Attending:
Many travel and training budgets have been cut. This means that regardless of the merits of a conference, you may need to justify the expense when in previous years you may not have had to do so. So here are some tips for making the case to attend.

  • Communicate to your board what topics will be discussed and how they will advance your professional/personal goals.
  • Offer to deliver a short presentation and Q&A session to share what you learned.
  • Share the syllabus and handouts with your board.
  • Be ready with a plan that outlines the full costs of attending and shows who will cover for you while you are away.
We look forward to seeing you in Minneapolis.
