Campus Security Officer

Washington Episcopal School (WES) is presently in search of a full-time Campus Security Officer. The primary objective of this role is to ensure a secure and safe environment for faculty, staff, students, and visitors. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting security patrols and traffic control on campus. While also identifying and addressing potential safety issues and enforcing campus safety policies.

The Campus Security Officer will report to the CFO/COO and collaborate closely with the Head of School, School Nurse and Facilities Team to maintain campus safety standards.

The schedule is based on a 40-hour work week. The actual work hours will be scheduled according to the needs of the school (schedule generally 8:30 a.m.-4:45 p.m. M-Th; 8:30 a.m.-3:45 p.m. F). 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor arrivals, departures, and activity in the building and on campus 
  • Monitor safety of daily carpools 
  • Manage traffic flow through campus.
  • Manage School Pass visitor management system, as well as activate, manage and control the security fobs.
  • Patrol the building and campus on foot regularly to maintain order and establish presence.
  • Answer occasional calls outside of regular office hours for security breach calls.
  • Investigate security and safety issues.
  • Prepare detailed written reports when necessary.
  • Participate in emergency drills and/or real time incidents.
  • Must be punctual, responsible, and dependable.
  • Other duties as assigned. Many duties or assignments are made based on the dynamic needs of the School. 


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Effective written and oral communication skills and a strong, professional customer service attitude. 
  • Engage with faculty, staff, students, parents, and visitors in a positive, professional and diplomatic manner.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with team members.
  • Ability to spend extended periods of time walking/standing; comply with physical requirements: full range of motion with both hands and arms, ability to climb stairs, ability to lift 25 lbs or less.
  • Ability to withstand weather conditions such as rain, sun, heat, cold, and wind as much of the time this position is stationed outdoors.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Available to work a flexible work schedule to include day, evening, weekend and holiday shifts as needed.

Additional Requirements

  • Upon offer of employment, must successfully pass a background check.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Current CPR and Basic Life Saving Certificate, may be completed after employment.

Required Education & Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required, with some college preferred.
  • Prior military, law enforcement, or security experience is desirable
