Job Title: Design and Innovation Teacher

Reports to: Director of Teaching and Learning and MS Director of Innovation and Design

Summary
The Design and Innovation Teacher is a visionary thinker who has a passion for inspiring and
supporting young people and collaborating with colleagues. The successful candidate will work
to further develop a curriculum that teaches students to create, make, innovate, build and
design in the STEM, STEAM, Problem-Based Learning curriculum areas.

Essential Functions
● Design, model and deliver rich student-centered learning experiences that emphasize
critical thinking, creativity, innovation and problem-solving following a problem-based/
project-based learning approach.

● Demonstrate an enthusiasm for taking risks placing emphasis on process rather than
product.

● Cultivate a learning environment that fosters respectful relationships and an appreciation
for diverse ways of thinking.

● Seek opportunities to connect learning experiences to the school community and
beyond.

● Partner with faculty to extend the core curriculum through hands-on projects in the
Innovation Lab.

● Train students and faculty on tools and equipment within the Innovation lab

● Establish and maintain a well-organized Innovation lab that fosters curiosity and
promotes collaboration in a safe environment for students and faculty.

Instructor Characteristics

● A creative thinker with an enthusiasm for innovative problem-solving.

● A collaborative, inquisitive and tinkering mentality

● Knowledge and understanding of the engineering process, design thinking and
project-based learning.

● Deep knowledge of developmentally appropriate instructional strategies and lesson
design in grades preK-8.

● Experience or familiarity with common STEAM lab tools and educational technology

Qualifications
● A bachelor’s degree in education, master’s degree and experience working in
independent schools preferred.

● At least 3 years of teaching experience preferably in the STEAM subjects.

● Demonstrated ability to integrate educational technology in the classroom.

● Strong Google Apps for Education skills; Google Educator certification is preferred.

● Highly effective communication, listening, collaboration and interpersonal skills.

● Strong planning, organization and time management skills.

Physical Requirements
This job is performed inside; the noise level can be soft to loud. While performing the duties of
this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, stoop, kneel, walk, talk, read, and hear. The
employee is occasionally required to use hands to type, finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or
controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up
to 25 pounds. The position is mobile across the campus, so must be able to switch classrooms
throughout the day, moving teaching materials from class to class, and make quick transitions.
