Full-Time Mathematics Teacher and Community Member 2024-25

Christ School seeks an enthusiastic, committed Mathematics teacher to join its faculty in August 2024. Teachers in Christ School’s Mathematics Department must be passionate about their discipline and excited about sharing that passion with students. In addition, they must be ready to juggle the diverse duties associated with life on a busy residential campus.

This Mathematics teacher will:

  • Develop appropriate curricula for 4 high school-level math courses per semester (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus).
  • Design well-planned lessons emphasizing problem solving and real-world application.
  • Foster a structured, positive learning environment for all students.
  • Investigate innovative teaching methods and materials for use in the classroom.
  • Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to students and parents.

Additional Athletic/Afternoon and Residential Life responsibilities will vary based on the candidate’s experience and interests, as well as the school’s needs. Candidates should be prepared to take on a combination of the following:

  • Coach sports teams (JV/Varsity), lead Outdoor Programs (mountain biking, hiking, climbing, whitewater kayaking, fly fishing, disc sports, etc.), or direct afternoon programs and clubs (Drama, Quiz Bowl, literary magazine, art, etc.)
  • Supervise a dormitory, either as a resident houseparent or an adjunct
  • Monitor evening study halls
  • Provide transportation and supervision for weekend activities
  • Mentor a small group of students through an advising program

Qualification Requirements:

  • Sincere interest in educating, encouraging, and inspiring young men
  • An undergraduate degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field; a master’s degree in one of these fields or relevant professional experience, preferred
  • Proficiency in the use of technology in the classroom
  • The ability to communicate clearly and proactively with students, parents, and colleagues
  • A demonstrated desire to learn and implement new teaching methods such as modeling instruction and project/problem-based learning
  • A commitment to Christ School’s Four Pillars: Academic Rigor, Leadership, Spirituality, and the Dignity of Manual Labor
  • Energy, flexibility, collegiality, and a robust sense of humor

About Christ School:

Founded in 1900, Christ School is an all-boys college preparatory boarding school for 300 students in grades 8 through 12. The school is affiliated with the Episcopal Church and sits on 500 scenic acres, nine miles south of Asheville, North Carolina.
