Upper School Science Instructor (Physics)

Purpose:  The Episcopal School of Dallas seeks a Physics teacher with a strong desire to inspire and encourage the learning of the physical world. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Physics and possibly Chemistry and will be able to teach along the spectrum of course offerings to students with a variety of backgrounds and abilities. The instructor will possibly teach a Middle School Class as well.  Prior teaching experience is preferred. ESD teachers typically also serve as advisors for a group of eight to ten students and club sponsors.

Essential Functions:

Teach 4 sections of Science (3 Physics Courses – possibly honors, AP, and 1 section of 8th-grade physics / possibly a Chemistry class) in alignment with ESD’s Statement of Educational Philosophy

  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Work closely with colleagues on the school’s curricular initiatives
  • Engage in reflective practice and professional development
  • Utilize appropriate educational technology
  • Support student learning by working with individual students before and/or after the school day

Participate in and contribute to the life of the school beyond the classroom:

  • Serve as a club advisor and/or athletic coach.
  • Engage in professional activities and gatherings at team, departmental, divisional, and school-wide levels.

Provide integral and varied support, planning, oversight, and communication as a student advisor.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Abuse Risk Management Standards:

  • Adheres to policies related to boundaries with students.
  • Attends required abuse risk management training.
  • Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising students.
  • Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.

Working Environment:

  • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling.
  • Generally 40% sitting, 40% walking, and 20% standing.
  • Minimal temperature variations (regular exposure to outside temperatures)
  • Off-site travel to include rustic environments and occasional overnight trips.
  • Generally hazard-free environment.
