St. Martin’s is seeking an Assistant Teacher for its Early Childhood division, which includes Toddlers (2s), Beginners (3s), and Pre-K students (4/5s). This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position with an August 2024 start date. We are seeking an enthusiastic Assistant teacher with a passion for working with students at the early childhood level.

The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher with work and activities inside and outside of the classroom. The Assistant Teacher is primarily responsible for supporting the Lead Teacher in ways that are constructive and beneficial to the classroom or directed by the Lead Teacher. The Assistant Teacher is expected to maintain strict confidentiality regarding students, parents, staff, and School related matters.

An Assistant Teacher is responsible for establishing effective rapport with students; motivating students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for becoming a responsible citizen in accordance with each student’s ability; and establishing good relationships with parents and with other staff members.

Essential Functions
●Operates the classroom in compliance with all Georgia child care licensing standards, and St. Martin’s Episcopal School’s Faculty and Staff and Parent/Student Handbooks.

●Meets with the Lead Teacher prior to the start of the School year and each School day to discuss classroom assignments and responsibilities.

●Helps in leading the class when the teacher is absent and/or involved in collaborative planning or meetings.

●Performs administrative and class-related duties to support the classroom, including but not limited to: setting up the classroom for daily activities, making copies and grading papers, creating bulletin boards, and other duties as determined by the Lead Teacher.

●Attends all grade level, departmental and required School meetings, including Open House, Admissions Testing Days, as well as organizes and attends Parent Night.

●Performs occasional duties, as requested by the Division Principal which may include, but is not limited to, carpool duties, lunch duty and recess duties.

●Instructs and encourages individual students as prescribed by the Lead Teacher.

●Works with students in whole groups, small groups or individually during classroom learning experiences, as directed by the Lead Teacher.

●Assists students with time management and organizational skills, as directed by the Lead Teacher.

●Attends all Early Childhood, departmental, and required School meetings.

●Attends chapel services.

●Is an active member of the faculty by participating on School committees.

●Adheres to all School policies, including safety and emergency procedures.

Competencies
●Demonstrated capability to interface and maintain effective relationships with parents, faculty and staff.

●Ability to maintain confidentiality.

●Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.

●Ability and desire to act as essential support to the Lead Teacher.

Qualifications Education
HS diploma or equivalent (GED) required and post-secondary degree preferred.

Completed or working toward completion of an education degree.

Proficiency with multiple technologies, such as: MS Office, Internet, Google, Email.

Experience

Must have experience working with Early Childhood aged children, specifically ages 3-6. Desire to plan and work collaboratively on a team is key.

Physical Requirements
This job is performed inside; the noise level can be soft to loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, and hear for extended periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Schedule
This position is salaried and non-exempt. Monday – Friday, 7:30am – 1:45pm, Toddlers, Beginners and Pre-K
