Position Title: Lower School Teacher
Reports To: Head of Lower and Middle School
Work Hours: 7:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
Work Calendar: School Year (Blackout dates may apply)

A Holy Spirit Episcopal School Lower School Teacher will provide opportunities to acquire knowledge and skills using interactive, engaging lessons that adhere to best practices in education. While maintaining positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues, an HSES Lower School Teacher recognizes and coaches the social-emotional needs of each student.

Essential Duties

  • Plans lessons within core subject areas offering differentiation through hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences and engaging projects.
  • Promotes and contributes to a positive and collaborative atmosphere with colleagues, students, and families.
  • Models growth mindset for students by actively participating in and applying professional growth opportunities.
  • Proficient with technology and demonstrates willingness to further develop technological skills, incorporating age-appropriate technology into classroom lessons when appropriate.
  • Strong classroom management skills to provide a supportive, orderly, and interactive classroom environment where creative learning takes place.
  • Follows standards and curriculum to ensure students learn necessary material and are ready for the next level.
  • Communicates with parents, administrators, and other team members concerning the academic and emotional development of students within the classroom.
  • Contributes to the life of the school outside the classroom, occasionally including after school, in the evenings, and on weekends.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned by the Head of School and/or the supervising director or head.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field.
  • Teacher certification.
  • Previous teaching experience, preferably in an independent school setting.
  • Proficient in technology, including knowledge of Google Suite, smart boards, LMS/gradebook systems, and other instructional technology tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasionally, lifts up to 30 pounds.
  • May work at a desk and computer for an extended period of time.
