Trinity Founder Marilynn Huffman to Retire

A Message from Head of School Jennifer Morgan

With my heart full of joy, gladness, and a bit of trepidation, I announce that Trinity’s own Marilynn Huffman, our Lower School Dean, will retire this May. Like our Mission and Core Values, Marilynn has been a through-line at Trinity. A thread that simultaneously creates and holds together the fabric of our school. She was our first 1st-grade teacher in the Blue House and her impact this year is no less than it was in 1999.

Marilynn taught us all how to do school – from the thousands of students who still return looking for her to the hundreds of young teachers she has prepared for classrooms worldwide and the parents. Imagine what generations of parents have learned from Marilynn. She has dedicated the past 20-plus years of her professional life to children, teachers, and Trinity.

I thank Head of Lower School Shanna Hines for allowing me to make this announcement. I quote Shanna saying, “Having recently stepped into the role as Head of Lower School – and in the midst of a pandemic at that – I could not be more grateful that Marilynn has served as my mentor, historian, guide, and friend these past two years. She is an educator through and through, providing an example to all for what it means to lead with compassion, to always put the children at the center, and to serve the ‘greater good’.”

Marilynn leaves huge shoes to fill, and Shanna and team will launch a national search for the next “just right” person. We will spend the spring soaking up our remaining time with Marilynn and planning a proper celebration of her remarkable gift to Trinity. Please join me in congratulating Marilynn and thanking her husband, Rick, for patiently waiting for her to join him in retirement.

Faithfully,
Jennifer
