Finding her Voice through Ministry

Wildaly S. was a 5th -grader this past year at Esperanza Academy. Our incoming 5th-graders are typical slow to take any sort of leadership within the school community. We expected no different this year as we mostly ran a hybrid teaching model and all of our chapel services were conducted via Zoom. Our new chaplain the Rev. Ángel D. Marrero-Ayala actively worked to involve students in chapel services. They had increased opportunity to do readings and to select the music for service. Wildaly had a great response to these opportunities. She was the most consistent volunteer to do readings, she was very active in chapel discussions, she was candid with her opinions and her faith, and she volunteered to be a speaker at our Christmas event. We expect her to be a chapel leader and role model for her remaining three years at Esperanza.
