General Theological Seminary Launches New Program in the Spiritual Guidance of Children

New York, NY—The General Theological Seminary in New York has launched a new program in the Spiritual Guidance of Children.

The program provides both academic learning and practical training for the spiritual guidance of children. Rooted in the scholarly environment of the Seminary, the program leverages the approaches to nurturing children’s spirituality developed by the Reverend Jerome W. Berryman, founder of Godly Play. Integral to the program are academic courses in scripture, liturgy, theology, and childhood and practicums conducted in learning spaces where children explore the Christian faith through story, wonder, prayer, and play.

The program is organized into a series of weeklong and weekend intensive courses that may be taken individually or as part of a full certificate program.

Jerome Berryman will teach a number of the courses as a Distinguished Visiting Professor during 2010-2011.
