[VTS] Virginia Theological Seminary invites applications for the position of Associate Dean of Students, to begin as early as February 1, 2013.
The Associate Dean of Students plays a vitally important role in the life of the Seminary community. The Associate Dean of Students has responsibility for the academic life experience and pastoral experience of the students. S/he is supervised by the Vice President for Academic Affairs, with whom s/he works closely, sits in the Senior Staff (Internal Administrative Meeting) and in the Policy Administrative Meeting, and plays a full role as a teaching member of the Faculty. S/he supervises the Admissions and Financial Aid functions in the Department of Academic Administration and Student Life. Depending on credential and experience, s/he would be invited to teach up to two courses per academic year.
Duties:
Oversees the academic experience of students, which includes:
– Admissions and recruitment policy, oversight, and strategy (as well as credit transfer)
– Academic calendar preparation and oversight
– Academic advising
– August orientation
– Scheduling of courses
– Academic policies and making recommendations when policies are violated
– Seminary catalogue
Oversight of the pastoral experience of students, including:
– Supporting the infrastructure of student chaplains, faculty chaplains, faculty formation group leadership, and spiritual directors
– Ensuring that pastoral emergencies are properly addressed
– Proper dissemination of Discretionary Funds to meet student need
– Overseeing the Adjunct for Chapel Coordination
– August term worship, opening Eucharists, Community Eucharists, and Quiet Days Community events, including Labor Day and Spring Picnic, Fall Variety Show and Dinner, and other student events
As a member of the Faculty:
– Participate in shaping the curriculum, ethos, and values of the Seminary
– Teach and conduct research in the area of expertise
– Participate in worship, advising, and evaluation
As a member of the Senior Staff:
– Works closely with the Vice President of Academic Affairs, supervises certain staff members of the Academic Administration and Student Life Department, and oversees certain budget items
– Participates in the formulation of policy for the Seminary
– Works as a team to implement the Strategic Plan of the Seminary, to vision about the future, and to overcome challenges and difficulties
– Reports to the Administration and the Board regarding student
