Two Maryland Schools Inaugurate Episcopal Schools Softball Classic

Episcopal Schools Softball Classic Logo[GEDS] Grace Episcopal Day School in Kensington, Maryland, and Christ Episcopal School in nearby Rockville will team up for an evening of Episcopal school fellowship and sporting fun on Friday, May 3, 2013.

The 1st Annual Episcopal Schools’ Softball Classic will be held at Grace, beginning with a barbeque at 5:30 p.m. and the CES vs. Grace parent softball game at 6 p.m.  The Executive Director of the Mid-Atlantic Episcopal Schools Association, the Reverend Claudia Tielking, is slated to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the start of the friendly contest.

The event is free, and participants and guests are encouraged to make a donation to support the Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys, an Episcopal school in Southeast Washington, D.C., that provides an academically challenging curriculum and a tuition-free education. The school’s website has more information on the Softball Classic’s beneficiary, as well as a link that allows one to “Support Bishop Walker” if it is not possible to attend the game.

In a joint statement, the leadership of the three Episcopal schools—Christ Episcopal, Grace, and Bishop Walker—said, “This is a wonderful opportunity for our schools to unite and strengthen the Episcopal tradition of community life.”

The participating schools hope that this game is the first of many over the years, and Christ Episcopal and Grace may add more teams to the Classic in subsequent years.
